Romantic language people! imperfect/preterit help please!?

if mary says "i went to spain last weekend" and Carl says "did you like it?" would the verb "to like" be in the imperfect or preterit? my french teacher just told us that "to like" is hardly ever used in the preterit, but it seems like it should be in this case....
