Is there a way we can prodict weatherjust by looking at weather conditions elseware?

OK. So say that in the southern hemisphere, it's summer or spring now. So can we look at their patterns in weather and are they a prediction as to what our seasons will be like? Say they had a rough winter... does that mean we can look and see if we will?
