Remote fireplace device that doesn't work?

I have a remote that works the fireplace functions that doesn't work. The remote model is RCT-MCT-II and goes to a "Heat & Glo gas fireplace. The only (2) things that show on the LCD display of the remote is "Er 6" and a backwards Fahrenheit symbol. Any advise or direction in how to fix would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim.
